Acne laser treatment
- Turning Zits To Zilch
Acne. Pimple. Zit. These words are usually associated with
adolescence. However, these unwanted bumps are not isolated to teens
alone; other age groups are also susceptible to the skin disorder that
is acne. Science, particularly biology, demonstrates that during
puberty, a lot of changes occur, physical or otherwise. Quite a few of
these changes are a welcomed delight, but others, not so---like the
topic at hand.
It is a fact that the sebaceous glands (triggered by androgen) are
extra active throughout the adolescent years. These glands excrete an
oily substance called sebum. Now, add hormones and bacteria to the
picture then you will have the perfect combination for breakouts.
Alone it may cause acne, together these three (sebum, bacteria, and
hormone) will create Mt. Zitmore. And if one tries to forcefully
rupture the said volcano, depressions and craters will form.
This is a problem that challenges almost everyone. Nobody would want
to live a life plastered with zits or scarred by the remnants of such,
right? Given the proper treatment, it is possible to transform that
zit to a zilch. And thanks to the ever receptive skin care industry,
we are presented with a line of products and services from medications
to acne laser treatments and everything in between.
Medications can be orally taken or manually applied in the affected
area. Oral treatment may include an antibiotic that aims to stabilize
hormonal swings. Another would be tablet or pills that contain
anti-androgens, said to have the same effect as that of an antibiotic.
Though, it should be remembered that antibiotics carrying tetracycline
or minocycline must be taken with much caution. These may prove
dangerous for expecting and lactating mothers. That is why it is
important that the medications be duly prescribed by a licensed
dermatologist.
Beauty has its side effects. You must understand these things before
actually purchasing over-the-counter pills. As for the manually
applied treatment, here enters the creams, lotions, and gels
containing antibacterial agents designed to dry out the skin. At the
top of the list is benzoyl peroxide. This topical treatment encourages
the skin to shed its topmost layer or the dead/dried up skin. This
will prevent further pore blockage or development of infections. If
you are not comfortable with your skin peeling off, do not use benzoyl
peroxide. Products springing from Vitamin A such as tretinoin and
adapalene can be used as alternative. Note that Vitamin A promotes
cell turnover and averts pore clogging.
Next is the acne laser treatment. This specific method has opened new
doors for effectively addressing the plague “creeping” the face of
mankind. As with the medications, the level of strength and intensity
of the laser treatment would highly depend on the severity of the
acne. The focus is on the pimples, but it also tackles the issue on
scars and pores. This is laser resurfacing. This process removes the
top layer of the skin and stimulates the dormant cells to produce new
(and supple) skin. All of these can be done without damaging the
skin’s surface. The drawback here is the cost. Repetitive laser
treatment could possibly burn a hole in one’s pocket. |
